The LBSC program is  currently on hiatus.    Life skills and work readiness are being offered by our

Preparing Oakland Native Youth program.


Life Skills

Our life skills and talking circles are led by facilitators trained in the White Bison’s Sons and Daughters of Tradition Curriculum. Rooted in the teachings of the medicine wheel Sons and Daughters of Tradition address:

  •  Healthy Decision Making & Communication
  •   Emotional Awareness & Self Care
  •  Healthy Relation
  •  Substance Abuse
  •  Personal Goal Setting
  • Opportunities for Leadership and Peer Education
  • Youth Stipends

 Youth Entrepreneurship Program

YEP is a stipend program designed to help youth obtain the knowledge and resources they need to  start their own small businesses while using creativity to  develop organizational, planning and leadership skills.  Through weekly meeting, workshops, guest speakers and field trips the program teaches youth about:

  • Developing ideas
  •  How to network
  •  Creating products
  •  Media strategies
  • Graphic Design
  • Marketing
  • Financial Literacy
  • Developing a business plan
  • Obtaining seed money

Job Preparation

Through workshops and one-on-one meetings LBSC provides youth with the necessary tools to enter the job market including:

  • Creating a Resume and Cover Letter
  • Learn about professional expectations and environment
  • Tips for job hunting
  • Professional references
  • Paid internships

Upon completion of the program requirements students may apply for a paid internship opportunity.  Our students have interned at organizations and businesses ranging from Hintil Kuu Caa Child Development Center to   Gathering of Tribes Art Gallery.  To become a host internship site please contact LBSC.

Case Management

LBSC provides   one-on-one case management with participants to help them plan and pursue their educational and career goals.   For out-of school youth or  young adults looking for employment the following servides can help improve the chances of success:

  •  Goal setting
  • Academic support
  • Mentorship
  • Resource referrals
  • Transportation  stipends
